Moving the mail server to another computer

If you've already installed and set up one or more AppleShare IP servers, you can move the mail server to another computer.

IMPORTANT: Your software license agreement allows you to run one copy of the mail server on one computer. If you want to install the mail server on more than one computer, you need to purchase additional copies of the software.

To move the mail server to another computer:
1 Make sure you've created all users who will have mail service.
2 Move the following items from the old computer to the same location on the new computer:
Users & Groups Data File (located in the Preferences folder in the System Folder)
AppleShare IP Mail Data file (located in the in the AppleShare IP Mail Folder on the startup disk)
3 Install the AppleShare IP mail server software on the new computer, following the instructions in the documentation that came with your software.
4 Use the AppleShare IP Easy Setup program on the new mail server computer.
When you're asked to enter your AppleShare IP serial number, type the number that came with your software.
5 When prompted to start the servers, deselect the checkbox. Do not start the servers now.
6 Stop the mail server on the old computer.
7 Update your network's DNS files to reflect the new mail server.
8 Start the mail server on the new computer.
